I was in Pare in the last 2 weeks and it was such a memorable experience for me. Pare is well-known as an english village, because there’re more than 100 courses spread there. I got information about Pare from my brother. He ever been there before and he told me that a lot of people speak in english in their daily life and we went everywhere around Pare by bicycle. How interesting it is! I became curious and tried to prove my brother’s words.
Pare is located far from the center of Kediri. So, when I got Kediri station, I still had to looking for a pedicab to go to a post office. Then I need to have a public transportation to got Pare. So the total price for the transportation was Rp12.000,- But since I got Pare in the dawn, I decided to call a travel to the dormitory. The driver was friendly, he told me everything about Pare and also about people’s behaviour there.
I was really surprised when I got to dormitory. The dormitory wasn’t big or luxurious. It was simple but very clean. And I was welcomed with a morning program. It was the best time to introduce myself. After the morning program, I decided to take a rest and skip the speaking class :p I started my class in the afternoon, and I became surprise for the second time. The class made by bamboo and we call it “rumah Laskar Pelangi”. The courses location was near rice field. So, it attract me a lot. I have 20 people as my classroom and they came from different part of Indonesia.
In the afternoon, after the class I got hungry. So, I asked my friend to accompany me looking for some lunch. I ordered grilled chicken with rice, and you know how much its cost? Only Rp5.000,-. It was cheap, right? I think everything in Pare is cheap :D except the price of public transportation if we wanna get the center of Kediri.
I spent my holiday in Pare for 2 weeks and I enjoyed it. In the last day, I got bullied by my dormitory’s friends. They called it farewell tradition, actually just for fun. When I got to dormitory, my friends flushed water at me. I was getting my clothes wet. Please God, I had packed all my clothes to a suitcase. And I had to issue it back to change my wet clothes -,- But it was fun actually. Thank you for bullying me, friends hahaha
I got a train on 07.00 pm. When the train came, I just carried my stuff in hurry. I tried to sit comfortably and looking for a blanket, but I had not gotten it. I asked a woman beside me, she told me that the waiter would give me the blanket soon. After that, the woman beside me started a conversation. She knew I was from Pare. Then she asked me,
“Please tell me about Pare-English village. In English please.”
I got my heart beating faster than before. I never imagined that someone would asked me to. I just started my short presentation about Pare. When I finished it, I asked her,
“Well Miss, you look like a teacher. Aren’t you?”, little bit investigating.
“Hmm, actually yes.”
“Wow, teaching in senior high school?”
“University.”
I was shocked. “What subject?”
“English”
Get it. That’s why she asked me to speak in English. Since that time, we had a long conversation along the way Kediri-Bandung. She likes me, and I like her more. Maybe I adore her. She’s still 27 y/o, but she has been a lecturer and she’s in process to get her doctoral degree. Wishing me can be like you, Miss Widya :)
